1. Map the work
Before you ask what AI can do, be clear on what the job entails.
O*NET OnLine — U.S. Department of Labor
Detailed task lists for roughly 800 occupations, free to search. Use it to draft a role's task inventory instead of starting from a blank page. People edit a list far faster than they create one.
PI approach: inventory the role, not the person
Draft 15–25 tasks per role from job descriptions, your job architecture and O*NET.
Write each task as verb + object + purpose: "Prepare weekly client status reports to update stakeholders on progress."
Refine it with a short panel of people who do the job well.
Confirm it with a 10-minute survey: how often, how long (in ranges), impact if done poorly, and whether they'd gladly hand it off.
Say plainly why you're doing it. A task inventory without context feels like the first step toward cutting jobs.
