Knowing the words is different from knowing the work.

"My brother-in-law is a lawyer."

(They never say what kind. My assumption: maritime.)

Every HR leader has heard some version of that sentence. Usually in the middle of an employee relations issue.

Today it's: "I asked ChatGPT."

The brother-in-law was never the problem. And neither is AI. Both can point you in the right direction. Neither was in the room.

  • They don't know the role.

  • They don't know the company.

  • They don't know the people.

  • They don't know what came before, or what comes after the decision.

They know the words. That's not the same as knowing the work.

Bring the AI answer. I use AI every day.
