Snapping Back

Stretch anything far enough and it'll snap back, just not to its original shape. Case in point, remote work. It stretched to zero office days. The headlines said it snapped back to five. It quietly landed at around three. Not the old shape. Not the unrecognizable stretched shape. A shape that resembles the old one, but is most certainly new.

AI layoffs are in the same stretch. The headlines report that roles are being cut "because AI has replaced them." Yet Gartner predicts 30% of employees cut in AI-driven layoffs will be rehired by 2029.

The extreme is newsworthy.
Where things land is noteworthy.
