AI Manager vs. Human Manager

Per recent headlines (see here and here), at an experimental AI-run store in San Francisco, the AI manager recommended terminating a human employee for poor attendance.

Except the AI manager didn't get there alone. A human manager's question steered AI toward that conclusion first. The recommendation was portrayed as automated, but it wasn't.

California's SB 947, the No Robo Bosses Act, would require Human Reserved roles. No employer could rely solely on AI to fire or discipline a person.

Some companies will make calls like these on their own. Others will wait for legal mandates.

Ultimately these are People Intelligence decisions, whether or not they start as legal ones.
